Today at Hizkidz we begin a new 6 week program where we will be learning all about a preacher called Smith Wigglesworth and the amazing things that happened when he gave is life to Jesus. We will also discover loads of amazing things as we look at the Bible each week. As well as having a memory verse each week, we will also be introducing a phrase or word used by Smith Wigglesworth and we’ll call it:

Wiggle Word Day

“Amazing Day” Is the theme of today’s program where we will not only be learning about Smith Wigglesworth, but we will also be learning about a Guy called Nicodemus. We’ve also got some great new songs, so come along and bring a friend.

Bee-Attitudes

Starting Friday, and taking us right up to the summer holidays, we are going to be looking at a famous sermon that Jesus preached one day called "THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT" In this sermon, Jesus told the people eight attitudes they can have that will cause them to be happy and blessed. These sayings are called "beatitudes" which is a Latin word for "happy and blessed".

We will also have a section of the program each week called ‘Bible Buzz’ where we will have a look at some of Jesus’ disciples.

Seeing Stars!

last night was the final part of our Christmas program and we gave out stars for the Christmas trees. Not only did we learn about the star that announced Jesus’ birth and guided the wise men to Jesus, but we also found out that in the Bible, Jesus is called "Bright Morning Star". So as we see the stars in the decorations of this Christmas we should remember Jesus is the "Bright Morning Star" and that when we put our hope in Him, we will be filled with love, peace, and joy.

It was our last night at Hizkidz until after the holidays but it was someone’s very last night. Janet, who has been the caretaker at the community centre for years, (long before Hizkidz started) is retiring. She has been a great help and encouragement to us over the years and we hope that she has a long and happy retirement. Here is Janet being given a gift by Dean and Hope.

Well that’s all for this year. We start back in 2010 on January 8th and hope to see you all then. Thanks for coming along this year and joining in all the songs games and fun you are all STARS. There is only one more thing left to say so watch the clip below.

Self-Control!

Last night we looked at the last of the Fruit of the Spirit, the fruit of self control, and we used a mango to represent this fruit. Not many people are really in control of themselves. Instead, they are controlled by their own selfish desires. To develop the fruit of self-control you have to want it, pray for it, work for it and let the Holy Spirit grow it in your life. Self control won’t come easy, but it is worth it. Will you be one of the few people who find it? If you really want to have self-control, it can be yours. But you must seek God with all your heart, giving your selfish desires up to Him.

Over the past 9 weeks we’ve looked at nine fruit of the Spirit and each week we have given out memory verse cards.

We made up a league  table and the winners were announced last night. They were Jordan in first place and Lucas and Hope in Joint second place. Well done you guys.

There was also a prize for the person who remembered all the fruit of the Spirit in order and that prize went to Cale. Does he look pleased or what. Well done Cale, you did great.

And of course, last night being the last Hizkidz before the Easter holidays, everyone got an Easter egg.

Have a happy Easter and we will see you all on the 24th April.

KINDNESS!

Last night at Hizkidz we looked at the fruit of KINDNESS and this fruit of the Spirit was represented with a strawberry.

We learned that showing kindness to others doesn’t mean we always have to do big things for them. In fact, most kind acts are small deeds done out of love, such as, sharing your lunch, helping with the housework, or even just saying hello! to someone.

I know that all of us have those times when we don’t feel like being kind. We don’t want to go to the trouble of treating others the way we should. In those times, we should ask the Holy Spirit to change our hearts. We should ask Him to give us the fruit of kindness, He will! He is the source of true kindness.

There’s only one week left in our “fruits of the Spirit” program. Next week we are going to learn about the last fruit of the Spirit and then we finish for the Easter holidays.

Where Are You Christmas?

Well, that’s Hizkidz finished for the year. We start back on January 9th 2009. Congratulations to our Memory Verse champion Cerys with Lucas a close second.

We’ve come to the end of our “Grinch” program and it’s been great fun. We’ve learned that Christmas is not all about stockings, snowmen, sweets and Santa. It’s not all about trees, tinsel, toys and turkey. It’s about Jesus. I like what the Grinch said:

It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?

It means a big bit more, Jesus is the reason for this season and the next and the next. So this Christmas don’t be like the inn keeper, find room for Him and let the peace the joy and the love of Jesus fill your hearts and minds, and have the best Christmas ever.

Last week our very own Dean Plenderleith appeared in Cumnock Academy’s production of “We Will Rock You”. Gillian and me went to the opening night and it was great,I just wish I could have got a picture for you of Dean in his costume and blonde wig. The show was a sell out on all three nights. Well done Dean, you’re a star* and so are all those who took part.
