We are continuing to read John’s Gospel and last night we read about “the man at the pool” in John 5:1-18. Jesus knows where we are, he knows exactly what we need and what’s best for us’

Jesus knows what’s best for us, that’s awesome.

For anyone who missed it, here’s last nights story.

We were looking at John’s Gospel again last night where Jesus’ performed his second miracle by healing the nobleman’s son. (John 2:1-11). We learned that Jesus has the power to heal just by saying the word..

Jesus can do the impossible, that’s awesome.

For anyone who missed it, here’s last nights story.

Hizkidz was awesome on Friday. Learning about an awesome God and His awesome Son, from His awesome Word. We read the story of Jesus turning the water into wine, from John 2:1-11. We learned that Jesus’ power is available for us in everyday situations.

Jesus has God’s power, that’s awesome.

For anyone who missed it, here’s Friday’s story.

Wear a Hat

Last week we had a sponsored event for "Age Concern Scotland" where all the kids wore a hat at Hizkidz and donated a pound. Well we managed to raise £30.00 and "Age Concern Scotland" sent us a certificate. We will put it up on the Community Centre notice board when we start back. Well done you guys. Here is a picture of the certificate.

We also gave out angels for the Christmas trees, each one was made by Irene who was one of our Hizkidz leaders a few years ago. We looked at the part of the story where the angel appeared to the shepherds and told them some good news that was going to bring great joy to every one. Lots of things can happen at Christmas that would try to take away this joy. You might not get the present you wanted, toys get broken, sickness in the family, even arguments in the family, but remember that the good news of great joy  the angel brought is that Jesus is here He loves us and is always with us. He will never leave us so we can have joy no matter what is happening this Christmas.

Christmas Program

First let me say sorry for not putting anything on the Hizkidz blog for ages. Things have been so busy lately. We are well half-way through our Christmas program already. As well as hearing the Christmas story each week we have been giving out objects to put on your Christmas tree that can remind you of Jesus.

week 1 we gave everyone a small bell. We said that a tiny ball bounces around against the inside the bell and that’s what makes the joyful ringing. We learned that our joy comes from the inside too! It comes from having love for Jesus in our hearts. But when you hold your bell tightly in your hand and shake it. It doesn’t have a very joyful sound. Our hands have dampened the sound of the bells. It is no longer bright and joyful. If we’re not careful things can dampen our Christmas Joy. We can get so caught up in giving presents and going to parties that we miss the real joy of Christmas. It is important to remember that the reason we go to parties and give presents at Christmas is to share in the joy of Jesus’ birthday. If the gifts and parties become the most important thing, then we will no longer ring out the true meaning of Christmas!

Week 2 we gave everyone a candy cane and we said that we can hold the candy cane up like the letter J and that should remind us of Jesus. If we hold it up the other way it looks a bit like a shepherd’s crook (stick) and that can help us to think that "the Lord is my Shepherd". We also looked at the colours of the candy cane, the white was for clean and pure just like Jesus. The red for blood, reminding us that Jesus died for us, and the green for life, new life, eternal life, everlasting life.

On Friday we will be giving out something else to put on your Christmas tree but I won’t spoil the surprise and remember, it’s  “wear a hat night” to raise money for Age Concern.

Last House in Luke Street

On Friday we arrived at the Last house on Luke Street, the "Country House". Two disciples were walking along the road feeling very sad and confused because of the things that had happened to Jesus, when someone started to walk along with them. It was Jesus, but they didn’t realise it. He asked them what was wrong and they told him. Then Jesus explained to them all the bits in the Bible that said things had to happen the way they did. They arrived at the "Country House" and asked Jesus to stay and have supper and while he was breaking the bread, the disciples suddenly realised who he was and immediately Jesus disappeared. The disciples were so happy that Jesus was alive that they ran the 7 miles back to Jerusalem to tell everybody. Like the disciples, we should be so happy that Jesus came alive that we should be running to tell people. He is alive today and we can know Him.

Nearing The End Of The Street

Before the October holiday we visited “The Cheat’s House”, and who was the cheat that lived there? It was one of the most hated guys around, a guy more unpopular than Simon Cowell, a guy named Zacchaeus. And we heard how Jesus was prepared to make friends with Zacchaeus. He wants everyone to be His friends, even if they are unpopular.

Last night we visited “The Secret House”, that was where Jesus and his disciples went to have a last meal together. We looked at the story of the cross. Jesus took the punishment for the bad things we’ve done and showed His power over death. That means we can be forgiven and be friends with Him forever.

Spending Time With Jesus

Last night we visited the “Guest House”, house number 5 on Luke Street. That’s where Mary and Martha lived. Martha was getting into a bit of a flap getting a meal ready for Jesus and was really annoyed because her sister Mary wasn’t helping but was sitting listening to Jesus. It’s a good thing to serve Jesus but it’s important to spend time with him. We can spend time with Jesus today by praying, going to Sunday School, going to HizKidz, and reading the Bible.

All Things Are Possible!

On Friday we had a great time at Hizkidz when we took a walk down Luke Street to see what happened when Jesus visited the “Leader’s House”.

Jairus had went to get Jesus because his daughter was very ill but while they were on there way to back to Jaiurus’ house, men came saying that his daughter had died. Jesus told him, "Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed." Jesus had the power to bring Jairus’ daughter back to life. Nothing is impossible for Jesus – then and now.

Sorry! but there will be HizKidz this Friday because of the September weekend holiday.

Who’s In The House?

We have been having a great time at Hizkidz with the “Streetwise” program. So far we’ve visited 3 houses on Luke Street.

The first house we visited was the “Sick House” where Peter’s mother-in-law was sick but when Jesus came for a visit He made her well. What a difference Jesus made in Peter’s house and He can make a difference in any of our homes.

Next we visit the “Crowded House” which was packed full of people wanting to see Jesus. In fact it was so full that some men made a hole in the roof and lowered their paralysed friend down and when Jesus saw the man He forgave and healed him. Jesus had power to forgive sins and heal sick people. He knows what we’re like inside and He can forgive us too.

On Friday we were at the “Rich house” where we learned of a woman who was so grateful Jesus forgave her that she showed how much she loved Him by pouring expensive perfume on him, and washing his feet with tears. We need to show Jesus how grateful we are that He forgives us.

Five more house still to visit, five more bits of the Bible to look at.

Just to remind you that we have Hizkidz polo-shirts for sale at £5.00 each so if anyone wants one, see me or Gillian.
